For Immediate Release: March 1, 2024
Contact: Nancy Jackson (213) 978-1960

The Los Angeles City Ethics Commission today announced the mandatory annual adjustments to limits and thresholds in the City’s campaign finance laws. The new amounts, which are provided in the tables that follow and can also be viewed at ethics.lacity.org/publications/#campaigns, apply to any City election cycle for which the primary election fundraising window has not yet opened.

The Ethics Commission is required to “annually adjust the limitation and disclosure thresholds in City law to reflect any increases or decreases in the Consumer Price Index” (CPI) for all urban consumers, as published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics for the region that includes the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Los Angeles City Charter § 702(h); Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) § 49.7.3(B)(2). The amounts that must be adjusted and the method for making the adjustments are specified by law. LAMC § 49.7.3.

The adjusted and rounded limits in the following tables reflect a CPI growth of 3.47 percent for the Los Angeles region between December 2022 and December 2023.

The limits published today do not apply to the limits and thresholds for the 2024 primary and general City elections. They also do not apply to Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education officeholders or candidates.
