The Ethics Commission announces that this Sunday, June 2, the fundraising window will open for the regular 2026 Citywide primary elections for Mayor, City Attorney, and City Controller. The primary election will be held on June 2, 2026, and if a general election is necessary, it will be held on November 3, 2026.
Individuals who are interested in running for office in the 2026 primary election must file fundraising paperwork with the Ethics Commission before they may solicit or receive campaign contributions. Candidates who wish to file should contact the Ethics Commission for guidance by calling (213) 978-1960 or emailing ethics.cefs@lacity.org.
The odd-numbered City Council districts and the even-numbered Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (LAUSD) districts will also be on the 2026 ballot. The fundraising window for those seats will open December 2, 2024.
City and LAUSD candidates are subject to a variety of campaign finance laws, including campaign contribution limits. For the regular 2026 elections, the contribution limit for Citywide candidates in the primary election is $1,800 per person.
For questions regarding the fundraising windows, contribution limits, or other campaign finance laws, please contact the Ethics Commission.
