To encourage broader participation in the political process and help voters make informed decisions, the Ethics Commission administers one of the strongest campaign finance programs in the nation for candidates, committees, contributors, and independent spenders in both City and Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education elections. Their activity must be disclosed and, in some cases, is limited. The Ethics Commission also administers a program that provides limited public funding to help qualified City candidates pay for their campaigns.

2022 CPI Adjustments
These amounts do not apply to the 2022 Primary Elections. They apply to City elections in which the fundraising window for the primary election opens after March 1, 2022. They do not apply to LAUSD elections.

2023 CPI Adjustments
These amounts do not apply to the CD6 special election or the 2024 regular City elections. They apply to City elections in which the fundraising window for the primary election opens after March 1, 2023. They do not apply to LAUSD elections.

2024 CPI Adjustments
These amounts apply to City elections in which the fundraising window for the primary election opens after March 1, 2024. They do not apply to LAUSD elections.

Cash Contributions	$40 per person, per election
Non-cash Contributions	$1,500 per person, per election
Anonymous Contributions	$300 in total, per election
Loans	$1,500 per person, per election

Fundraising Windows
The fundraising window for the 2024 primary elections opened for City Council and LAUSD candidates on September 5, 2022.
Candidates are required to file a Form 12 before they may begin fundraising.
